In 2014, Falana McDaniel started a mentoring program in our hometown (Brookhaven, MS) called Rising Stars for Christ. This program’s goal is to provide positive experiences for girls ages 10-17 that will help them become better versions of themselves.
My church in Brookhaven, First United Methodist, sponsors a free, delicious meal for all in the community who want one. Falana and her Rising Stars for Christ program have been a part of this undertaking for the past several years, helping with everything from preparation to delivery of around 1,000 meals annually.
It is noticeable that Falana has built strong relationships with these
young ladies and serves as a professional but fun, engaging mentor to them. I know Falana as one who believes in what she does and pours her heart into her mentoring program as well as into everything else she invests herself in.

Having a mentor not only exposed me to different things, but also helped my transition to college. Since I became the first to graduate college, it was hard to register for classes and Financial aid because of the type of language being used. Everything was foreign to me, so having a mentor made that process much more easier for me.

The single Moms program really had my back when I didn't know what steps to take. They helped me set goals and accomplish them. They even helped me go back to school, and that's a big deal for me. Thank you for helping me and working with me.

I learned a lot in the Rising Stars program. I was able to get advice and give advice on situations that I didn’t know how to deal with. The mentors helped me tremendously and I was trying to be a better example for the younger girls. The scholarship helped me get things I needed and pay for a semester of school that my band scholarship didn’t. It was a blessing to have that scholarship and to be a part of the Rising Stars mentoring program.

Rising STARS for Christ mentoring program has been a good influence on my child’s life. Because she feel she can open up to the girls and the leader. She can talk to them about anything and they can help her with any problem. This has helped with issues that we have had in the household. And it’s been a good influence on my life also. That they can help you with your problems is good.
